Taking Payment
Payment is the last step of the checkout: confirm what is on the ticket, take the money by card or cash, and decide what happens to the receipt. The order is placed as part of the same flow, so a completed payment leaves nothing else to do.
Placing the order#
- Tap through to the Order Summary — it lists the items, the order type, the address or table, the timing and the payment breakdown.
- Add Special Instructions if the customer asked for something.
- Tap Place Order.
- Choose the payment method on Select payment method.
The payment methods#
| Method | What happens |
|---|---|
| Card Reader | The card is taken on the terminal's own reader; follow the prompts on screen. |
| Card Terminal | Charge the customer on your separate card machine, then tap Order Paid to complete the order. |
| Cash | Enter or tap the amount received; the till shows the change and can open the drawer. |
With cash, Select or enter cash received offers the common notes as well as a keypad, and the change is worked out for you — Change: £4.50.
The receipt#
After a successful payment the till asks How would you like your receipt? — print it, or choose No Receipt. Receipts also print automatically where the branch is set up that way, and any order can be reprinted later from Transactions.
Troubleshooting#
Payment Unsuccessful
The payment was declined or interrupted. Retry Payment keeps the ticket intact; the order is not placed until a payment succeeds.
No payment methods available for this order type
The branch has no payment method configured for that service. Check Payment Methods in the Admin Dashboard.
Print failed
The sale is complete and the money is taken; only the receipt failed. Reprint from Transactions once the printer is fixed.
Cash payment processing failed
The sale did not complete. Check the connection and take the payment again rather than assuming it went through.
Exception while opening cash drawer
The drawer could not be triggered. Check it is connected to the terminal; the sale itself is unaffected.
