Business Categories

Business Categories are the company-wide catalogue of business types — each with its own set of Business Sub Categories — that individual locations later pick from to describe what they offer. In Company View you build and maintain this catalogue for each company.

What are Business Categories?#

A Business Category is a top-level classification you define for a company (for example a cuisine or trade type), and each category can contain any number of Business Sub Categories. Together they form a two-level catalogue:

  • Business Category — the broad grouping, with a name and an optional icon.
  • Business Sub Category — a more specific entry inside a category, also with a name and an optional icon.

The catalogue itself does not change anything on its own. Its purpose is to be picked from: in Location View, each location has a Business Sub-Categories page where the location's team selects a Category and then a Sub Category from the catalogue you maintain here. This is how individual locations get classified.

Where to find Business Categories#

  • View: Company View
  • Menu: Business → Business Categories

The page follows the Company selector at the top of the screen. Choose a company there and the list shows that company's Business Categories. If the list is empty, check that the right company is selected.

The Business Categories list#

The list shows one row per category:

ColumnDescription
NameThe category's name.
(actions)Buttons to View the category's sub-categories, Edit the category, or Delete it.

Which buttons you see depends on your access. If a button you need is missing, ask your administrator.

  2. A confirmation appears: "Are you sure want to delete this Business Category?"

Common tasks#

Set up a catalogue for a new company#

  1. Select the company in the Company selector.
  2. Add each top-level category with ADD BUSINESS CATEGORY.
  3. Open each category with the View button and add its sub-categories with ADD BUSINESS SUB CATEGORY.
  4. Locations can then classify themselves: in Location View, open Business Sub-Categories for the location and pick a Category and Sub Category from your catalogue.

Rename a category everywhere#

Edit the category (or sub-category) here and save — locations pick entries from this shared catalogue, so the updated name is what they see when selecting.

Troubleshooting#

The list is empty.

Make sure a company is chosen in the Company selector at the top of the screen, and that categories have been created for that company.

A location cannot find the sub-category it needs.

The sub-category must exist in this catalogue first. Open the right category with View and add it.

The Translations section does not appear.

It is only shown when the company has more than one language configured. With a single language there is nothing to translate.

The image will not upload.

Images must be smaller than 3 MB — otherwise you see "Image size should be smaller than 3MB!". Resize the image and try again.

  • You do not see the add, edit or delete buttons. These actions depend on your access. Ask your administrator.
