Taxes

The Taxes page lets you set up the tax charged on customer orders — as a percentage or a fixed amount — per order type, with a rule that controls which parts of the order the tax applies to. This is a Location View feature: taxes set here apply only to the location you currently have selected.

What are Taxes?#

A tax entry tells the system how to calculate tax on orders of a given order type (Delivery, Pickup, Catering, Curb- side, Eat-in). Each entry has:

• a Tax Rule — what the tax is applied on (the subtotal, the food only, or the food plus the delivery or card fee),
• a Tax Label — the name customers see, such as "VAT" or "Sales Tax",
• a Charge Mode and Tax Rate — either a percentage of the order or a fixed amount.

Taxes are set at order level per order type; you do not attach them to individual products.

Where to find Taxes#

• View: Location View (make sure the right location is selected first)
• Menu: Finance → Taxes
• Availability: part of the Finance feature package. If your plan does not include Finance, this menu entry is not shown. On the iHost edition of the platform the Taxes page is not available at all.

The list#

On desktop the taxes for the selected location appear in a table (cards on smaller screens).

Each row also has an Edit (pencil) and a Delete (bin) button, depending on your permissions.

Adding a tax#

1. Go to Finance → Taxes and click ADD TAX.
2. In the Add Tax window, choose the Order Type and Tax Rule, type the Tax Label, then choose the Charge Mode and enter the Tax Rate.
3. Click SAVE. On success you will see "Tax saved successfully". Click CLOSE to dismiss the window.

Updating a tax#

1. Click the Edit button on the row you want to change.
2. Adjust the fields in the Edit Tax window.
3. Click SAVE. The confirmation "Tax saved successfully" appears.

Deleting a tax#

1. Click the Delete button on the row.
2. Confirm the prompt "Are you sure want to delete this Tax?" by clicking Yes! Delete (or No to keep it).

Field reference#

Order Type (required)#

The order type the tax applies to: Delivery, Pickup, Catering, Curb-side, or Eat-in. If left empty you will see "Please select a Order Type".

Tax Rule (required)#

What the tax is calculated on. If left empty you will see "Please select a Tax Rule". The options are:

• Apply on subtotal — tax the order subtotal.
• Apply on food — tax the food items only.
• Apply on food and delivery fee — tax the food items plus the delivery fee.
• Apply on food and card fee — tax the food items plus the card fee.

Tax Label (required)#

The name displayed for the tax on orders — for example "VAT". If left empty you will see "Tax Label is a required value".

Charge Mode (required)#

Percentage charges a share of the taxed amount; Fixed Price charges a set amount. Most tax setups use Percentage. If left empty you will see "Please select a Charge Mode".

Tax Rate (required)#

The rate itself. With Percentage mode, enter the percentage (for example 20 for 20%); with Fixed Price mode, enter the amount in your location's currency. If left empty you will see "Tax rate is a required value".

Common tasks#

• Charge 20% VAT on delivery orders: add a tax with Order Type Delivery, Tax Rule Apply on subtotal (or the rule your accountant advises), Tax Label VAT, Charge Mode Percentage, Tax Rate 20.
• Change the tax rate: edit the entry and update the Tax Rate, then click SAVE.
• Rename how tax appears to customers: edit the entry and change the Tax Label.
• Stop charging a tax: delete the entry for that order type.
